The teaching of Chinese Language at the IP is offered without tuition fees based on the relevant agreement signed between the Ionian University, the Department of Science and Technology and the UNESCO Chair of the Ionian University with the Chinese Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC- Center for Language Education and Cooperation). CLEC is responsible for teaching, certifying and disseminating the Chinese language internationally.

At the Ionian University, the teaching of the Chinese language at beginner level "CHINESE LANGUAGE 1" is done by a specialized Chinese teacher and is currently aimed at beginners, undergraduate and postgraduate students of all Departments of the I.P. It is taught in person for two two-hour sessions per week, for a total of four (4) hours per week, during the spring academic semester.

This level includes the phonetic system of the Chinese language, simple grammatical and syntactic phenomena, learning 400 words and practice, as well as elements of Chinese culture. Basic language communication skills related to communication and everyday life issues are developed, such as: greetings, introductions, family members, nationalities, studies, professions, shopping, numbers, date and time.

Chinese language knowledge at this level corresponds to level 1 of the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Written Examination, the international standardized Chinese language examination and evaluation system implemented by the National Chinese Language Certification Board (HANBAN) of the Ministry of Education of China. The HSK examination grading system includes six levels, HSK 1 (basic) to HSK 6 (advanced).

Students who have successfully completed the courses can take the corresponding annual state Chinese language certification exams.

The teaching of the Chinese language at the advanced level (second semester of learning) "CHINESE LANGUAGE 2" is done by a specialized Chinese teacher and is currently addressed to advanced, undergraduate and postgraduate students of all Departments of the I.P. It is taught in person for two hours a week, a total of four (4) hours a week, during the summer academic semester (Tuesday-Thursday 13:00-15:00, room 2.45 (Department of Archeology, Librarianship-Museology, I. Theotoki Street 72 2nd floor),

On Friday 13:00-15:00, room 2.45 (Department of Archival Library-Museology, 72 I. Theotoki street, 2nd floor) the department will focus on the more intensive preparation of the Chinese language proficiency exams.

It is strongly recommended that those attending a Chinese language learning section (1 or 2) simultaneously attend the interdepartmental course organized by the "Hellenic Sinology Center" of the IP, entitled GREEK AND CHINESE CULTURE – A COMPARATIVE APPROACH. The course is a unique educational experience, which gives students of all departments of the I.P. the opportunity to explore, with the help of the most suitable teacher, two of the most important ancient civilizations in world history: the Greek and the Chinese. 

Through a comparative approach, we will delve into the similarities, differences, and cultural exchanges and interactions that have marked the course of humanity. The course awards ECTS.
