The Hellenic Sinology Center participated in the Thessaloniki International Book Fair 2026 through the contribution of its Executive Director, Professor Elena Avramidou, who delivered two lectures highlighting the dialogue between cultures, literature, and philosophy.
The first lecture, entitled “Building Bridges of Culture: Confucius and Plato – Chinese Wisdom and Greek Philosophy,” was organized by the cultural review ENEKEN and focused on Professor Avramidou’s book Confucius–Plato: The Sage-King and the Philosopher-King. The discussion explored convergences and differences between Platonic and Confucian approaches to political authority, governance, and ethical leadership.
The second lecture, “Ioannis Kapodistrias through the Lens of Nikos Kazantzakis,” was organized by the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Greece’s first Governor. The presentation examined Kazantzakis’ 1944 theatrical work Kapodistrias, shedding light on the literary and historical dimensions of one of the most important figures of modern Greek history.
