On 27 April 2026, the Hellenic Sinology Center had the honor of welcoming the Traditional Orchestra of Nanjing University to the Ionian University for a unique musical event celebrating Chinese cultural heritage and artistic exchange.
Founded in 1996, the orchestra is composed of undergraduate and postgraduate students from various schools of Nanjing University, one of China’s leading academic institutions. Over the years, the ensemble has received numerous distinctions and awards for its contribution to the promotion of traditional Chinese music and culture.
The concert featured performances of traditional Chinese instrumental music through ensemble, solo, and chamber arrangements, showcasing string, wind, and percussion instruments. With more than 500 performances and an extensive repertoire, the orchestra has become widely appreciated both in China and internationally. The event offered the audience a valuable opportunity to experience the richness of Chinese musical tradition and further strengthened cultural and academic ties between Greece and China.
