From September 18 to September 28, 2024, a delegation of the Ionian University made a successful official visit to China within the framework of the institution's extroversion and international cooperation.
The team of the Ionian University was led by the Rector, Professor Andreas Floros, and also attended by the Director of the Hellenic Sinology Center of the I.U., Professor Stavros Katsios, the Executive Director of the Hellenic Sinology Center, Dr. Elena Avramidou, Professor Panagiotis Vlamos, member of the Administration Board of the IU, and Professors Alexis Papadopoulos and Stefanos Vlachopoulos, members of the Executive and Scientific Committees of the "UNESCO Chair on Threats to Cultural Heritage".
The visit was part of the activities of the Hellenic Sinology Center [sinology.ionio.gr], which was founded and operates at the Ionian University in cooperation with the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) with the mission to promote academic cooperation and research in the field of Chinese studies not only in Greece, but also in Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The programme of the multi-day visit included a series of visits to educational institutions of all levels in China, meetings and contacts with stakeholders in technological and educational institutions to promote broader collaborations and presentations of the Ionian University and the work carried out at research and academic level in areas of cutting-edge and international interest.
Overall, the official visit to China by a delegation of the Ionian University is characterized as a very successful one, as highly informative meetings were held, the foundations were laid and collaborations with very important academic institutions were advanced and the high extroversion and international orientation of the institution was confirmed once again in the clearest and most dynamic way.
